"My Government"

Sorry, that's not my quote. I can't claim any responsibility for this government, as none of the people I voted for were elected (I live in a red state, after all). No, this was a quote from our president, when discussing the no-confidence vote that never materialized in Congress.

"And they can try to have their votes of no confidence, but it's not going to determine -- make the determination who serves in my government."

"My government". Kinda goes against the "We the people" thing, but in wartime you gotta grant some additional leeway to the Commander-In-Chief. But this seems a little excessive. He's referring to Alberto Gonzales, the Attorney General who promotes torture and has amnesia about the political firing of various State Attorneys General.

The Decider has proclaimed, despite the lowest approval rating of almost any American president, that he doesn't care what the American people think; he's gonna stick to his guns, no matter how hopeless the cause. Even his own base is turning on him because of immigration issues.

This man (a title dubious at best given his National Guard record) has been irrelevant since 2004. The sooner we realize that, the sooner we can get on with rebuilding this democracy of ours and make this country great again.

Attention Deficit Disorder

I’ve never written about Paris Hilton before, but this little episode bears mentioning. She was released from county lockup today after only a few days for “medical reasons”. Okay, not officially released, but “reassigned”, but she gets to go home. Same difference in my book.

And what are the “medical reasons”? No one’s talking, but the only medical person to visit her in lockup was her therapist. There are also allusions to “prescription medicine” that couldn’t be appropriately administered by Correction Department personnel. Draw your own conclusions on that one.

The press is talking about her prison memoirs. First of all, she wasn’t in prison, she was in jail, and only for a few days. If this turns into a mini-series, it’s got to be very 24ish.

I just can’t help but thinking if she wasn’t the heir apparent to the Hilton fortune, she would have been a porn actress or a golddigger in search of a rich husband.

Not to be outdone, Nicole Richie is also facing a DUI, and admitted to Letterman that she might go to jail as well. As this is a repeat offense, she faces 90 days to a year in incarceration.

In related celebrity weakness, Lindsay Lohan is on lockdown in rehab, and Richie Sambora checks into rehab today.

It appears that these “reality-based” celebrities have very little grasp on reality.

Update: Paris was carried kicking and sreaming back to jail. There is a just God after all. End of story (hopefully).

Shouldstock site available

Cindy Sheehan’s “Camp Casey” is up for sale on eBay.

Bidding is scheduled to open Monday or Tuesday, with expected bids upwards of $80,000, for land that would normally sell for a fraction of the cost. Reasons for the over-inflation include: that it is close to Bush’s Crawford pseudo-ranch, and that it is the historic site of Sheehan’s protest movement that was based there.

I think that the land would be excellent for an annual concert event, like Willie’s 4th of July Picnic, or Farm Aid, or something.

If I had an extra 100 grand, I’d get in on the bidding. Then again, if I had an extra 100 grand, I probably wouldn’t be a progressive (i.e. liberal) blogger.

Let’s hope that the person who buys it uses it for some virtuous purpose, like an annual tribute to the freedom from oppression enjoyed by Americans before Bush declared his War on Terra. The way it should be.

Cause I would totally take vacation for Shouldstock 2009.
